By now, you've probably noticed that I'm in love with my CSA,
Titus Farms. I was so excited about cooking with my CSA goodies this summer that I joined
Cooking Away My CSA, a group started by Heather from
Flour Girl. It's been a ton of fun to share recipes and hear about what other people are receiving in their shares. I've decided to post a round up of what I started with from each share and what they became. I got a small share and only receive it once every 2 weeks, so you'll be seeing one of these posts every couple of weeks.

This time I got Japanese turnips, mixed greens (kale, chard, and collards), strawberries (!!), green garlic, and bok choy. Here's what resulted:
From the strawberries, I made
gelatin (and some probably also went into one of the two puddings),

and a strawberry and kale smoothie (using some of my kale, as well).

I basically blended about a cup of frozen strawberries, several handfuls of torn kale, 1/2 cup plain yogurt, 2 Tbsp flax meal, a spoonful of pineapple juice concentrate, and enough water to get it to the right consistency. It was really good, and I couldn't taste the kale at all.

All in all, I think I did a fairly good job of making a diverse set of meals with my goods. Everything turned out great, and I can't wait to pick up my next box on Monday!
You've been prolific this week! Everything looks amazing. I'm especially impressed with the variety of dishes you were able to prepare.
ReplyDeleteawesome! I am jealous because, to my dismay, all of my student organic farm veggies were frozen solid in the fridge this week (and my eggs from the farm froze/burst). I did make a green smoothie that was similar to yours, though.
ReplyDeleteI wish my CSA would sell small shares. I didn't join this year because I can't use all that they give.
ReplyDeleteJulia - it was definitely a busy (but very fun!) week
ReplyDeleteSam - I'm still sad about your veggies and eggs :(. How exactly did you fridge get so cold?
Rita - This is the only CSA that I'm aware of in the area that does small shares, which is one of the reasons I picked it. I'm hoping that others catch on that it's worth having different sizes.
